THE LAST OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN TRIP...random shots

Random Mountain Photos in South Africa

Kruger Park Exploration

I have no idea why these letters are showing up.   Please excuse.

I think this says "Kruger".
In the park, the animals are wild.   They hunt for their food from other animals in the park.   Just as nature intended.  Therefore, you DO NOT leave your car for any reason.   You never know who is lurking in the tall grass beside the road.

This is the gate to the entrance of the park.   I was bouncing up and down in my seat.
The office at this particular gate.

The last restroom stop before you enter the animal area.

Gift shop!   Always a gift shop.

Facinating, isn't it! hahahah

The first creature we saw.    A Dung Beetle.   Mr. Wonderful says that's great because they are rarely seen.

This is some rarely seen critter.

HIGHLIGHT OF TRIP FOR ME...

When Mr. Wonderful gave me the choice of staying in a Rondoval or a tent inside the park,  I jumped all over it.   It was so much fun!!   This is the tent from the back.  On stilts.   No air conditioning!

Tent from the side.  The "kitchen" was on the front porch!!

Yes, this is the kitchen.

The door to the tent.   It is screen.  It doesn't lock.

The dining area.

The cooking area.

Mr. Wonderful preparing the fire to cook our dinner.

We are that dinner here.  Notice the sandy part on the upper right side.

This was the view from our patio.   It is looking out to an animal crossing area IN THE PARK.  There was an electric fence between us and any animals wandering by.

The tent had a bed, a shower, and a real flushing toilet!!   Also a refrigerator.   At night, we could hear the noises: howls, growls, calls, chirps.  It was so cool.

More later, Peeps.

Traveling to Kruger Park

I didn't think time would allow us to vist the great Kruger Park.   In total square miles, the park is the size of Arkansas.   But, Mr. Wonderful being who he is, made a plan for us to go...just for a night and day.

The night before we (he) found a little hotel in the middle of nowhere.  The grounds were beautiful AND a five course dinner was included.  It was an outstanding meal.

BEACHY MIMI EMBARASSING MOMENT.  I admit, I've never eaten a 5 course meal that didn't include chips, hamburger, fries, milkshake and dessert.   So we sit down to eat and I say "Oh look, they have a butter knife at each placesetting!"   Mr. Wonderful replies, "Er...my love...that is a fish knife."

Okay then.

I've used those things as butter knives ALL MY LIFE and had no idea a fish knife even exsisted.
Random shot of the grounds
entering the hotel area...beautiful

This was...disturbing.   Emergency for what?   Escaping lions?   I slept with one eye open.

Outside dining area...and as always, a place to braai.

Tableclothes, china and the works.   I was underdressed.   Not really.  No one dressed up but the restaurant ended up being full with waiting lines.  The menu is whatever they have cooked for tonight.   Fabulous.

More pictures of the hotel grounds.   We also had a wonderful breakfast (also included).  Loading up the next morning.

Headed to Kruger Park.     Later Peeps.   I love ya.

LIONS, TIGERS AND... no bears.

This post may be upsetting to some, so be warned.   If you don't like seeing animals being fed...chickens and sheep then RUN...RUN AWAY NOW!

I'm just the reporter in this post, so don't be hurtin' me about the subject matter.   Just trying to show you life
in parts of South Africa.

We visited family and they took us to neighbors that had a Lion Farm.   I didn't know what a Lion Farm was.
People breed and raise lions to be planted in "hunting areas" so trophy hunters can "track" them and shoot them  for their...heads, tails, skin...I have no idea.   "Hunters" pay upwards of $300,000 for this.

I got a little too close to the fence and she pounced.   Seriously.

Dinner.
The paw is really the size of a dinner plate.

The guy that raises the lions.  They let him pet them.

Eating sheep.  Gag.
Beautiful

They see dinner coming.  Farmers with dead chickens bring them to feed the lions.

Baby did not like to be held.  Just about to bite.

teenage lions

That will be all for today.  They did have a male and female tiger there, but since they were not native to Africa I didn't
show them.   Maybe another time.

Later, Peeps!
